Temasek Holdings has appointed Tan Chong Meng and Geoffrey Wong to its board of directors. Tan’s appointment took effect on April 1; Wong will join the board on May 10.
Both Tan and Wong are senior business leaders with extensive industry experience and track record from the private sector. They will join current members of the Board to provide overall strategic guidance to the management.
Tan had a 40-year executive career spanning both private and public service, including 12 years as group chief executive officer of PSA International ( PSA ).
Prior to PSA, he led global businesses in the Royal Dutch Shell Group and had an earlier career with the Ministry of National Development. He currently serves as chairman of Jurong Town Corporation and is deputy chairman on the board of National University Health System.
In April 2020, Tan was appointed co-chair of the Emerging Stronger Taskforce, a committee set up by the Singapore government to guide the nation’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wong was trained in computer science and electrical engineering and has had a long career in investment management. He was head of emerging markets and Asia-Pacific equities for UBS Global Asset Management since 2000, until his retirement in May 2023. In that position, he had overall responsibility for all emerging markets, Asian, Japanese, and Australian equity teams, strategies, and research.
Prior to joining UBS in 1997, Wong co-founded an Asian investment management firm, Koeneman Capital Management, which was the early incarnation of the "quant" investment management house, subsequently acquired by DBS Asset Management.
